Getting in to the swing of things with the beautiful weather of June 2016. This throwback takes a look at my seventh to tenth weekly hikes which started in April 2016. Let’s take a quick look at my visits to Heart Lake Conservation Area, Limehouse Conservation Area and Bruce Trail side trails, Cold Creek Conservation Area and the Humber River Trail around Old Mill.
Heart Lake Conservation Area
This first attempt at Heart Lake was made with my aunt, and it didn’t go so well. We had a twenty minute head-start before the heavens opened up and we were quickly looping around back to the car!
I think we got less than 2km in, but it was enough to make plans for a return trip when the weather was more cooperative. This place has Treetop Trekking! (I did make it back to Heart Lake for the actual trails as well).
Limehouse Conservation Area and Bruce Trail side trails
Limehouse is a gorgeous area and I highly recommend this hike. As I’ve lost many of my photos from my first hikes, this one is up on the list for one of my first return trips. This trip was 11.5km.
Cold Creek Conservation Area
Cold Creek Conservation Area is very pretty area with a well-maintained trail system. It was a great day out, apart from some buzzy bug that followed me throughout the entire 5km or so. Thanks to Instagram for saving some mediocre semblance of my photos.
I also ventured out without any sun protection here, and while a good chunk of the trail is forested, there are stretches of open fields where I baked. I thought it would be much worse than it ended up, so I’m lucky. Don’t be like me – bring sunscreen, always!
Old Mill Humber River Trail
This is a city trail. It’s one of very few that I have attempted. I enjoy hiking to get away from the hustle and bustle. I did not find that on this trail and ended up cutting my trip very short at about 3km.
There are some really nice interpretive features along this trail. I might try it again, at pre-dawn on a rainy day.
