Throwback August 2016 Hikes

Throwback: August 2016 Hikes at Dundas Valley CA, Silver Creek CA, Scanlon Creek CA, and Mono Cliffs PP

Bright and sunny days are definitely up there when it comes to good hiking weather, and August 2016 did not disappoint. My weekends took me along the trails of Dundas Valley Conservation Area, Silver Creek Conservation Area, Scanlon Creek Conservation Area and Mono Cliffs Provincial Park.

Dundas Valley Conservation Area

Dundas Valley is a giant conservation area in Hamilton, with a great system of trails to follow – including, of course, the Bruce Trail. This was our first visit to the area, but definitely will not be the last. So many trails through here, and many waterfalls!

We only made a short trip in around Canterbury Falls, looping around to Sherman Falls. There were not many people on the trails themselves, but as you can see, Sherman Falls was swarmed.

Silver Creek Conservation Area

Along the Bruce Trail you’ll find all sorts of conservation areas including Silver Creek. I completed the Great Esker side trail, and will definitely need to return to explore the rest! If you continue on the Bruce Trail north of here you’ll end up in Terra Cotta Conservation Area.

Scanlon Creek Conservation Area

Scanlon Creek is a beautiful conservation area up in Bradford. It has a great set of hiking trails, and a bonus feature: dog park!! Also, the chick-a-dees here will reportedly eat out of your hand. So come prepared with birdseed, and some patience.

Mono Cliffs Provincial Park

Mono Cliffs Provincial Park is sure to inspire. Just look at these stellar views! There are lookouts all over the park as you follow any number of Bruce Trail, side trails or park trails. Be ready to climb for some of them – and then back down, too. Some of the trails can be pretty steep so wear your good hiking boots for ankle support.
