Halton Regional Forest – Mahon & Currie Tracts

Sundays are great days for hiking. And this week I decided to head out to Halton Regional Forest to knock off the “Halton Complex” – which would be the Britton, Currie, Mahon, Robertson and Turner forest tracts.

This didn’t happen.

I totally forgot that I was supposed to be going to a birthday party on the other side of the GTA.

Oops.

So I only ended up doing Currie and Mahon tracts, before getting a text that reminded me of said birthday party.

It was a very nice hike while it lasted. I do love forest tracts and regional forests. There are several access and parking points to enter Halton Regional Forest at pretty much any tract you want. I ended up in a makeshift roadside parking area at the corner where Mahon and Turner sort of meet.

I was half expecting some change in the leaves, considering Thanksgiving is next weekend. But it’s all still very green out here!

I headed straight out and into Currie, which is an out-and-back leading to Guelph Line. I totally drove past this parking lot at this end of Currie but it’s a decent size and good option if you are coming from the 401.

The majority of the tracts are wide and fairly level. There isn’t much climbing to be had in these parts.

Mahon is a shorter tract, and resembles an overgrown gravel road. There is a turn-around at the inner end of the tract, so perhaps it was motorized at some point. There is no official parking at the outer end of Mahon, but there was a car pulling up as I made my way back down the lane.

At this point I was about to head on to Turner, but was rudely interrupted with previous plans. Ugh. And then I just about ran out of Halton Regional Forest because I was definitely going to be late!
